This book by Shane Claiborne, one of the founders of The Simple Way, is taking nonprofit work to a new level. The Simple Way is a monastic community that takes a grassroots stand on changing their Philadelphia community.
Claiborne’s book titled “The Irresistible Revolution” changed the way I view nonprofit work. His desire to change the hearts of people, rather than just their economic situation, called me to a higher level of service.
I recommend this book for all faith-based nonprofit workers reaching for a higher purpose in their work. Let me warn you though: this book targets those willing to reach the dregs of society.

Although I can’t claim to be an expert of any sort on Claiborne’s intentions, I can offer this:
In this book, Claiborne emphasizes living a simple life with an enormous purpose. In his belief, every Christian has been called to a radical, world-shaking lifestyle. This lifestyle would come into play in all areas (loving your neighbor, turning the other cheek, etc.) and would always result in actions that go against the grain of normal society.
But, Claiborne claims all Christians have been called to this lifestyle. If that is true, this lifestyle should be nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, the world should be bursting with people living ordinary, radical lives.

Hey if you’re a fan of Shane Claiborne and his book, then you should really check out the Another World is Possible DVD series. It’s a multimedia project by Shane Claiborne and Jamie Moffett (co-founders of the Simple Way) that emerged in response to their belief that things are not right in the world, and that they don’t have to stay that way.
